JES Tech Gets Called to the Principal’s Office!

By Nellie Chappell-White

JES Tech is pleased to participate in Capital One Bank’s annual Principal for a Day Program.  This event is in partnership with the City of Houston and the Houston Independent School District (HISD).  I am excited to represent JES Tech for a second year in a row for this fantastic program!  This year’s event will be held Friday, October 16.  The Principal for a Day program invites civic leaders to “shadow” principals for a day to gain a better understanding of the rewards and demands of educational leadership.

Rewarding and Demanding… that is a good way to sum up my visit to Mading Elementary School last year!  The rewards were endless; all of the beautiful smiles from the students, witnessing the wonder in the eyes of the students as they learned, feeling the level of the positive energy and drive of the students, and seeing the commitment level of the teachers and other school staff.  As a parent with an elementary school-aged child, this program definitely gave me an even deeper appreciation for the dedicated people who work daily to improve our children.

“Demanding” is an understatement when discussing the daily work executed by education professionals--at least from my bird‘s eye view as Principal for a Day.  What kind of demands did I have?  Hours of non-stop power walking throughout the school to check in with classes, performing random teacher/class evaluations, giving the entire 3rd grade class an impromptu pep talk for the bench mark testing I had to administer to them… Let us not forget lunch duty for the Kindergartners!  I have never opened so many pints of milk in my life!  I also thought it was funny that I was told all the Kindergartners knew not to eat their dessert first, but almost 25% of them graciously asked me if they could eat their dessert first as soon as they sat down to eat.  I guess they were testing to see if their temporary principal knew what she was doing.  J

Last year’s Principal for a Day experience definitely gave me a better understanding of what principals, teachers, staff, and volunteers do to support our schools.  Do not forget to pass on your gratitude to the educational professionals who are (or were) a part of your life.

Be on the lookout for the follow up on my Principal for a Day visit coming up on October 16, 2009.  I am slated to return to Mading Elementary for next week's event.  JES Tech looks forward to the partnerships evolving through this outstanding program.  This may grow into volunteer opportunities for other JES Tech employees…I will keep you posted.

We Have Lift Off!!!!

We wanted to set up a company blog to generate a sense of community, provide information and updates to employees while giving everyone the opportunity to voice their opinions, concerns and suggestions. We hope you will use the blog as a tool to see what is happening in the company, at the different locations across the country (yes, we have several groups across the country) and locally here in Houston at JES Tech Headquarters.

The company has experienced rapid growth over the last three years. Here in Houston, our quarterly company meetings grew from a few tables at a restaurant to a ballroom at the Recreation Center. In addition to local growth in the Houston and Galveston area, we also have employees at White Sands, New Mexico, and in Cleveland, Ohio.

Our range of services have grown from logistics, administrative and scientific support and direction to include nursing, pharmacy services, research subjects, drivers and couriers, research study monitors, information technology services and digital imaging solutions.

As we grow, we want to keep you informed of what is happening in the company, changes in corporate policies and the next company event.

Beyond company news and events, we hope you use this page as a virtual gathering site to plan events and get togethers outside of work. Maybe you can find a work out buddy, plan a lunch, dinner, or fishing trips, find someone to go to a ballgame with, or just get together to fly kites.

The blog will evolve as the company and our employees evolve. We are going to try to add posts weekly or whenever news or important information becomes available.

Please let us know what you think about the idea. Will you read it? Will you submit to it? You can either reply at the "Post a Comment" section below or at our email at We look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks and take care.
